Ready for Change
I’ve been experiencing intense negative thinking and internal criticism of myself and struggling to find peace from it. My brain points out everything that’s “wrong” with me and the things I need to hurry and change, habits I need to break and build. But my mind also tells me that I’m incapable of making these changes.
I decided to get by brain on paper and journaled about what I was thinking and feeling but felt no better afterwards. And then a couple of questions entered my mind…
“What do you want to believe about your ability to change?” and “How would you encourage a friend, sister, or client if they were feeling the way you do?”
Here are the thoughts that came to me in response. I hope they give you the encouragement and comfort I felt when writing them.
You are ready to change. The discomfort of your negative thoughts and effects of your bad habits are no longer worth it. You’re ready to trade the intense discomfort of staying where you are for the discomfort of doing what it takes to change and progress. You can now let go of defeat and start to trust yourself. Sit with this for a moment and feel the truth of it.
And maybe change won’t be as hard as your brain says it will be.
Spring is here and with that comes the sun and you’ll be able to absorb its healing rays. You’ll be able to get outside and take more walks and let nature heal the parts of you that no words and no one else can. And as that happens, simple progress will start to take place. Positive, natural, unforced momentum will build.
A walk in the sun will lead to drinking more water, which will lead to clearer thinking, which will allow you to access and invite creativity and wisdom. This will feel so good to your soul that you will want to start nourishing your body a little better so that you can take more walks. Your body will be stronger and your walks will get longer, and maybe your pace will be faster.
Before you know it, you’ll be in a cycle of sun, water, walks, nourishment, creativity, and energy. And trust and confidence in yourself will build organically. Little by little, old habits will fall away and you’ll feel capable of more.
You’ll have a a firm foundation to build upon. A clearer mind and stronger body that will allow your spirit to take charge. You will be guided with clarity to the next step in your journey…and the next…and the next. And you will feel capable of each step because you will have learned what to do to change.
You will look back at your first walk in the sun, in the spring, and see how far you’ve come, and the energy and momentum of this will propel you forward. You will be able to live more fully into your purpose and do things you never thought you could, in spite of what the world tells you.
And all of this will happen, not because you restricted yourself or shamed yourself. It will simply be because you started with a gentle walk with your face in the sun.
